Some perspective on 'core membership'I know this is probably gonna be a long journal, but if you manage to read all the way through the end you might perhaps even get to learn a few things.
Furthermore I want to state that my opinion on the matter is pretty much neutral. I'm not with DeviantArt on the matter, nor am I against them. I just want to make people see things from the perspective of a 27 year old woman that has been in the web industry for the last decade.
The internet is not free
First of all, and most important thing to realize, is that the internet is not free. Everyone who lived through the early ages of web 1.0. (old people like me) knows that it costs money to run a website. Back in the day user content wasn't a thing. Whenever you wanted to put something on the internet, you needed to get a domain name and rent a piece of web hosting and that would cost you a monthly fee. Gradually

New Year's Friendture Journal
...There was no need to combine those words.
But I did it anyway.
Hark! - the promised feature journal, in which I struggled to showcase some of my longtime (and newer!) friends' work with just a few pieces. I started with five works each but figured hey - in denying myself and picking just three, maybe readers would feel denied, too, and all the more anxious to get up in those galleries and see more of their beautiful work.
And that's really what I want the readers of this journal to do, because my friends deserve it. They have supported and inspired me, some of them for years now. Sharing a few of their brilliant works in the hop

To everyone waiting on commissions or comments to finally be replied to, I'm sorry for my inactivity and the lack of updates on Essence. This semester has been a doozy, but my last exam is tomorrow so expect a bit more from me after that!
Keeping it short for now but I want to do a feature journal within the next few days (cuz my friends' art is just too awesome not to share) so drop a comment if you'd like to be included!

A Message Left with Love from Yo BFF
So, Shinkami, aka Karen, aka the loveliest soul ever, left her DA account up on my computer so I just wanted to pop in and say a few words about my best friend. Karen, you are such a compassionate friend, an amazing talent, and you deserve the best life has to offer. You helped me out when I needed someone and you always encourage me to embrace the crazy stories and characters in my head. Your babes are amazing, sometimes I forget they aren't real, and I can't wait to play Essence and touch some butt, I mean interact with your wonderful, floofy haired children. (I might save Mak for last since he's my fave. ;) Don't tell the others.) Never gi

Y u no provide link to the journal? I had to look it up. D:
But anyway. I don't really care about the costs of Premium memberships going up, because, hey, I don't have one. You'd think that people would realize, though, that $50 a year is a lot less than you'd pay other places (Netflix is about $80 a year, after all, and people don't complain there). I'm just getting tired of seeing people complain already. XD
However, I wish that deviantArt would have made some kind of announcement about this, because I had no idea what these orange icons were this morning (and felt very left out that I wasn't considered "core" ;_; ). Finally, why'd they have to pick such a stupid name? Did Premium have a negative connotation? Why not call people Super-deviants or Llama Lords or something?
Anyway, that's my 25 cents.
